I was lucky enough to catch a special screening of this British alien invasion comedy over at the New Beverly here in Los Angeles on the Fourth of July. “Attack the Block” is a tightly crafted comedy/thriller that takes elements of “The Warriors,” “The Outsiders,” “Gremlins,” and even “E.T.”, blends them together and sets them in South London.
The result is a unique, hilarious and always fun film that’s a breath of fresh air in this year’s lackluster summer of movies. Where "Super 8" fails, “Attack the Block” succeeds.
I should also mention that getting hear director Joe Cornish and producer Edgar Wright talk following the movie was quite encouraging. This is Cornish’s first film as director and he’s 41 years-old, which reminds me not to put a time limit on myself and to keep treading along on this path I’ve chosen.
