Film Journal #157 - Guillermo Escalón’s “Alejandro” (1994)
A retrospective documentary on the life, work and career of award-winning Salvadorian filmmaker, Alejandro Cotto. Unfortunately, the film relies heavily on showing scenes from Cotto’s own work, begging the question: why not just watch Cotto’s films? Still, it felt good to get acquainted with the life and work of a filmmaker who is from Suchitoto, especially since I’ve found myself crewing on a new piece about him.
