Cinephilic Ramblings

I am Gerry. I love movies. Sometimes I make them.

Anonymous asked: Stumbled upon this by accident- inspiring stuff. As someone who has just started to take cinema seriously, I was wondering what your essential films are.

Hey Anonymous,

Thanks for reading! Wow, that’s a tough question. There are lists and lists of essential films made by film scholars that are much more qualified than I am. However, what I can do is give you a list of a few movies that changed the way I watched film. Hopefully they can do the same for you.

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey - Stanley Kubrick
  • Blade Runner - Ridley Scott
  • Breathless - Jean-Luc Godard
  • The Conversation - Francis Ford Coppola
  • Sans Solei - Chris Marker
  • Shadows - John Cassavetes
  • The Thin Red Line - Terrence Malick
  • Two-Lane Blacktop - Monte Hellman
  • Vertigo - Alfred Hitchcock
  • And the works of Stan Brakhage
