Film Journal #211 - Charlie Kaufman’s “Synecdoche, New York” (2008)

Every so often you encounter one of those films that just stays with you. It’s grips onto your very being and refuses to let go, living in you and staying with you for the rest of your life. Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut, “Synechdoche, New York,” is one of those films for me. Not only for this quote, but for its thematic concepts, its fearlessness is asking those big, important questions.
It felt like I watching the soul of a kindred special bare it all and that is indeed a rare cinematic experience. For those interested, this is a 2.5 hour interview with Kaufman that delves a little deeper into the mind of a genius.
